Occupy Little Rock sends word of an Occupy Arkansas convention in Little Rock
this weekend Jan. 13-15. Yes, a convention. Events include two marches, a town hall meeting, a cleanup project and music.
PLEASE NOTE THE CORRECTION. I wrote originally, incorrectly, that the convention was this weekend. It's Jan. 13-15.
FROM OCCUPY LITTLE ROCK
Join Occupy Little Rock for the first OccupyArkansas State Convention. Participate in State General Assemblies, direct actions, workshops and social events.
Stake out a camping spot at our luxurious Occupation Site at Capitol and Ferry and spend the weekend energizing our statewide organization leading up to the National GA in Philadelphia July, 2012.
Our weekend convention will consist of General Assemblies to plan for Occupy’s future, hold direct actions, attend educational and recreational workshops and enjoy music and comedy shows to balance our work with play.
MARCH, SATURDAY 2PM
Our first group march will be Saturday at 2pm, marching from the Occupation site to our State Capitol and back. The focus of this march will be on government corruption and the unsettling relationship between Corporate America and our Nation’s Leaders.
MARCH, SUNDAY 11AM
The second group march will be on Sunday at 11am. This time, our route will take us through the River Market and past the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce before returning us to the Occupation site. The focus for this march will be the presenting innovative and people-centered solutions to our nation’s problems, rather than telling America more of what they may already know.
Before our march on Sunday morning, we will send groups into Downtown Little Rock to do a little housekeeping. Groups may be picking up trash, scrubbing posts and railings, or sweeping sidewalks. Whatever they do, rest assured they will be making Little Rock a more pleasant place for all!
TOWN HALL MEETING
Saturday morning, from 10am to Noon, we will have the Little Rock Town Hall Meeting at the First Presbyterian Church of Little Rock. Basically, it is a facilitated forum. We invite the general public and public representatives to discuss relevant statewide issues that flow from income inequality, lack of representation, and campaign finance reform.
Rockupy is our clever name for Friday night’s local-music-concert we will be hosting. We will showcase two or three local artists whose message is synonymous with the message of the Occupy Movement.
Beyond these events, there will be lots of surprises. All events are open to the general public, and anyone who is interested is encouraged to attend. All are welcome, and we hope to see YOU there!
