Police traded gunshots with a suspect after a robbery of a market on Baseline Road last night. No one was hurt, apparently, and the suspect escaped.

Details follow from the LRPD:

On Thursday at 8 p.m. officers responded to a Robbery Just Occurred at the Sunshine Food Mart located at 3200 Baseline Road. Officers made contact with the victims who stated they were inside the Sunshine Foods store when the suspects entered the store brandishing handguns. They said the suspects walked behind the counter and demanded money and cigarettes. Susp-1 struck an employee in the back of the head with a pistol. The suspects left the store on foot. A witness observed the suspects get into a Mercury Marquee which had been parked on Mize Road, just west of Sunshine Food Mart. Officers were in close proximity and broadcast the license plate and direction of travel of the vehicle.

At approximately 8:04 p.m. Officers saw the suspect vehicle at Baseline Road westbound at Stanton Road. Officers told communications they were behind the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle turned north onto Stanton Road. The suspect vehicle traveled approximately one tenth of a mile before turning west into an unnamed trailer park at 8706 Stanton Road. The suspect vehicle came to stop at lot #10. The 3 suspects fled from the vehicle with the driver’s side back seat passenger firing an unknown number of shots at officers. Officer Jason Deno then returned fire at the suspect. The Officers chased the suspects east from the location before losing sight of them. Officers located a possible suspect matching the description of one of the occupants of the vehicle and took him into custody. It was determined that the person taken into custody was not involved and he was released without charges. No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire. Detectives do have information on the suspects and are working to get them identified. It is believed that these suspects are responsible for the robbery on Senate Drive.

In the Senate Drive robbery, Chadrick Moss, 27, resident of a home in the 6300 block of the street, said he was standing outside when two armed men forced him inside and robbed him of five pairs of Polo shoes, $15 and a cell phone.
