Encouraging news on equality under the law on account of sexual orientation.
* MARINES: Marine Gen. James Amos, who spoke against open service of homosexuals in the military, now says the transition has been a non-event. His wife happily greeted a lesbian Marine couple at the Marine Ball.
* ILLINOIS: Gay and lesbian couples in Illinois may file joint state income tax returns beginning next year.
* TRANSPARENCY: Federal courts continue to rebuff efforts by anti-gay groups to be wrapped in secrecy as to both their supporters and financial contributors in campaigns to restrict legal rights of gay people. They want secrecy for their activities not given to others in the political process. Is shame a factor? You'd hope.
Will Arkansas politicians follow the signals of Marines, Illinois legislators and federal courts? I think it's safe to say there won't be a stampede.
