A bipartisan group of senators — Sens. Mark Pryor and John "Dr. No" Boozman are among the sponsors — has again introduced legislation to allow that local sales taxes be collected on Internet sales.
Because it's a unified national effort, Amazon has signed on. eBay has not, though the bill exempts small on-line vendors.
The big push for this is coming from retailers like Walmart, which must collect sales taxes because it has retail operations in all states. Local governments, their sales tax collections dwindling because of the migration of business to the web, also generally support this legislation.
