I talked to Prosecuting Attorney Fletcher Long of Forrest City for a column this week about his thoughts on Operation Delta Blues, the massive federal investigation of drug dealing and police corruption in Helena-West Helena, which is a part of Long's district.
Might it be a reflection on failures of local law enforcement? Long doesn't see it that way. He said he was "ecstatic" about the operation, which he said drew on more resources than he could command. He raised, too, a sensitive subject that has been raised before in his judicial district — the perception of a difficulty in winning convictions from juries seemingly influenced by race.
