Rankin campaign cash

LOCAVORE: Beth Anne Rankins cash crop is home-grown.
  • LOCAVORE: Beth Anne Rankin's cash crop is home-grown.
I mentioned yesterday the quarterly campaign finance report by Tom Cotton, a Republican seeking the 4th District congressional nomination. He reported raising $343,000, but had spent only about $11,000, leaving more than $330,000 on hand.

I finally scrounged up opponent Beth Anne Rankin's filing this morning. It shows she raised almost $175,000 and has$163,000 on hand.

As she emphasized in a previous release, Rankin's money is almost entirely home-grown, where Cotton enjoyed significant contributions from national financial, legal and consulting circles, as befits someone who has not bee in school or worked in Arkansas since high school. Even some of Rankin's out-of-state money cames from former Arkies who now live in Texas, $5,000 from Ted and Shannon Skokos (like Rankin, a former Miss Arkansas). Rankin's connections as former staff member for Mike Huckabee are apparent, including through a $2,500 contribution from Huckabee himself. A number of prosperous Arkies are on her list, though nothing matching the tycoon contingent on the Cotton list. Frank Hickingbotham, the yogurt and banking millionaire, is a $2,500 Rankin contributor.
