The commission that accredits zoos last week tabled accreditation of the Little Rock Zoo for a year because of financial concerns. It was a bad news/good news kind of thing. Lack of accreditation is not a good thing. But the news came as Little Rock was voting on a sales tax increase that included operating and capital money for the zoo, which remains a popular institution, one of the city's most visited attractions. Support for the zoo was among the factors that helped passage of a one-cent increase in the city sales tax.

Somebody asked about the report the accreditation agency issues in such cases. That final report won't be available for several weeks, Zoo spokeswoman Susan Altrui said. But in response to my request, she provided:

* The inspection report done for the accrediting agency last summer. It lists both financial and other concerns about zoo staffing and exhibits. One major concern, after money, was lack of a full-time veterinarian, who is to be hired next year.

* The Zoo's response, including corrective action and photos. The response makes clear how much was riding on new money for the zoo from the tax proceeds.
