Republicans just don't much like voting by groups they tend to see as trending Democratic. Minority groups, for example. College students can also be problematic apparently. Today the fight is by the Maine GOP chairman to disenfranchise college students.
College student voting, it should be noted, riles a broad spectrum of people who belive students should be profited from but not heard in local politics. In Arkansas, a lawsuit produced a ruling preventing 1,000 Arkadelphia college students from voting. Who championed their cause? The ACLU went to bat for plaintiffs including Republican Sarah Huckabee and restored their voting rights.
