The state of Washington, D.C. schools and Michelle Rhee naturally arose when I talked this week with Heritage Foundation representatives touting a new push for school vouchers and more charter schools in Arkansas. Naturally, I got the feeling from them that they believe Rhee, the former D.C. school boss and poster woman for "reform," hung the moon and had been ousted for demanding excellence.
Maybe, though, her publicity-hungry methods allowed for "success" at any cost, including cheating and coverups.
Next time somebody touts Michelle Rhee, remember this story about why she won't talk to USA Today, which uncovered evidence of cheating on standardized testing on Rhee's watch. It includes the pitiful Rhee response to the allegations, certainly compared with Atlanta.
