The panel discussion on the West Memphis Three case, sponsored by the Arkansas Times in partnership with the Clinton School of Public Service, had drawn more than 500 reservations less than 12 hours after we put it together yesterday morning. UPDATE: Make that 800 as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.
As a result, the event — at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 — will be moved from the Clinton School to the Wally Allen Ballroom of the Statehouse Convention Center at Markham and Scott Streets, just across the street from our offices. In that venue, more reservations can be made today and accommmodated. The room can accommodate a thousand or so.
Participants are Scott Ellington of Jonesboro, the prosecuting attorney; Pat Benca, Blake Hendrix and Jeff Rosenzweig, Little Rock lawyers who represented defendants; Times contributing editor Mara Leveritt, who's long covered the case and wrote an influential book, "Devil's Knot" about it, and Capi Peck, who led Arkansas Take Action to work toward release of the men.
To help the Clinton School make arrangements, please send an RSVP, either by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 501-683-5239.
