Death in Garland County Jail

From sheriff's spokesman James Martin:

At approximately 3:55 this afternoon [Saturday], during inmate feeding, deputies noticed 29-year-old Christopher Lee Martin hanging in his cell. Mr. Martin had fashioned a rope from bedding and was able to hang himself. Garland County Coroner Stuart Smedley responded and pronounced Mr. Martin deceased at the scene.

Martin was alone in his one-man cell at the time.

Martin was being held on charges of Criminal Attempt to Commit Capital Murder, Resisting Arrest, two counts of Criminal Mischief and Assault 3rd Degree, stemming from his attempt to kill a Hot Springs Police Department Officer last week. Martin was being held on a $100,000.00 bond.

No other information is being released at this point, pending further investigation
