Two arrested for attack on Gould mayor

NASH: Shortly after the incident.
Two men were arrested today in connection with a July 28 attack on Earnest Nash, mayor of the city of Gould. According to the Arkansas State Police, "Don Smith, 37, and DeCarlos Smith, 34, both of Gould, have been arrested this afternoon by Arkansas State Police in connection with an attack that occurred last month involving Gould Mayor Earnest Nash. Don Smith is charged with battery (first degree) and DeCarlos Smith faces a charge of battery (third degree). Both men were taken to the Lincoln County Jail to post bond."

Nash spoke about the attack in a recent interview with the Times. He said that Don and DeCarlos Smith are the brothers of a member of the City Council.

About two or three minutes later, Mr. Hall, Ms. Farley, Ms. Smith, came back with DeCarlo Smith and Don Smith who are brothers to Rosieanna Smith-Lee [a Gould City Council member]. They jumped out of their car street gang-style. The assault took place after that. One gentlemen tried to stop Mr. Smith because he saw the gun in his hand. I didn’t see the gun. When I saw it, I really didn’t know whether to run or stay there because I felt as though my life was in danger at that particular time. Any time someone has a gun and they’re coming at you angry, you’re life is in danger.

His brother punched me on my left side. Then Don Smith got up on me and that’s when I received the hit with the weapon, with the gun.
