Mayor Mark Stodola, Police Chief Stuart Thomas, Fire Chief Greg Summers, Annie Abrams, Dexter Doyne, Jim Metzger and Yana-Janelle Scott are lined up to talk up the 1 percent city sales tax increase tomorrow at noon at the Willie Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center, 3805 W. 12th St. The Committee for Little Rock's Future is hosting the event, and calls attention, in a news release, to the diversity of the group. (If you're keeping tabs, here's the breakdown: Stodola, Thomas, Metzger are white; Summers, Abrams, Doyne and Scott are African-American.)
They might well emphasize their diversity. The support for the tax in the African-American community is less than firm, if the street response to opponents Wendell Griffen and Robert Webb and others at the $500 Million Tax — Too Much! rally Saturday is any indication. The poster-waving protesters were few but the supporting honks were plenty.
