Legislative maps due today

You can check the state Board of Apportionment today for final redistricting maps from Gov. Mike Beebe, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel and Secretary of State Mark Martin. A public hearing is scheduled July 25 and the board will vote July 29. Beebe and McDaniel will win. Republicans will complain.

I've said all along that Democrats overestimate the help they can give themselves by mapping, though they undoubtedly can do some. Republicans know this but play the martyr for political purposes and would play the game in exactly the same way if roles were reversed. To the extent "harm" is done, it won't be done to people, but to some incumbent legislators or wannabe legislators. BFD.

I note, FWIW, that this topic stirs precious little interest among readers. I'd love to see some scientific polling that would determine what percentage of Arkansans could identify their representative and senator.
