As expected, the state has received official notice of loss of Medicare eligibility for the State Hospital.
The institution's failure to meet standards prompted the ouster of hospital leadership two weeks ago. The state said then that it would be working with federal officials to correct deficiencies so Medicare coverage would again be possible.
The letter calls for an end to reimbursement for psychiatric patients on July 18. The state, however, is negotiating an agreement to continue Medicare funding, conditioned on promised improvements and expects that the money won't be stopped.
The state also released two federal reports on deficiences in care found at the institution.
