John Brummett tries to have a rational conversation with Republican Rep. Justin Harris and learns it's just about impossible. Harris sees no contradiction in being a government-budget-chopping, anti-illegal-immigrant legislator while taking a paycheck financed by taxpayer money for educating children who likely include illegals. (BTW, I bet a lot of kids take a waiver from the religious instruction Harris admits he offers daily at his government-financed pre-school. Not.)
Though he doesn't name her, sounds like Brummett also has been chatting with another famous Republican hypocrite, Teresa Oelke, who's on the Koch boys' financial teat to push their anti-tax, anti-government agenda while her family is raking in dough doing Obama stimulus-financed construction work. She sees no contradiction in her Tea Party stoking anti-stimulus rhetoric and family profiteering from same.
She said a person can’t simply decline to participate in the economy because he disagrees with some of the government policies affecting that economy. But I wasn’t asking her or her husband to do that. I only wanted her to think about moderating her rhetoric and her thinking in light of her experience.
Good luck with that.
You do wonder what the Harrises and Oelkes will do for a living if they DO succeed in strangling the government they rage against.
