The Texarkana Gazette reports today (pay wall) that the man with whom state Sen. Steve Harrelson (D-Texarkana) scuffled Sunday at the home of Harrelson's estranged wife has asked that Harrelson be charged. In the police report we posted yesterday, each man claimed the other initiated the physical altercation, which left Harrelson bruised and cut. The newspaper says Harrelson's wife signed the formal complaint against Harrelson. Harrelson was unhappy to find his wife's boyfriend in the house when he brought his daughter home from a weekend visit.
In response, Harrelson said in an e-mail:
I understand that an affidavit was filed yesterday, which has no merit. It is my intention to work with Lori to put our differences aside and focus on what is in the best interest of our daughter.
UPDATE: The Miller County prosecutor says he's referred the complaint to a judge to determine if charges should be filed. I've never heard of such a procedure.
