Griffin visits Head Start, GOP cut target

UAMS has announced a visit Thursday by U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin to the central office of UAMS' Head Start program, which serves kids at 21 sites.

Perhaps somebody will ask Griffin about his party's recent push to slash $1 billion in Head Start spending, explained by another Republican congressman as "just one of those things." Democratic pushback saved the program from cuts and even won a small increase in the recent spending deal, but Republican wishes seem clear on starving the program begun in 1965.

The education, health and nutrition services that Head Start provides save far more than they cost. Maybe UAMS can convert Congressman Griffin.
