The University of Arkansas System has announced a series of public forums April 26-28 on the search for a new president. Current president B. Alan Sugg is retiring when a successor is chosen.

As we've detailed previously, the search so far has mostly been conducted privately. But new UA Board Chairman Carl Johnson has promised to bring more sunshine to the effort. He's said he believed candidates for the job should be willing to make open applications to lead UA. Johnson said he hoped the forums will produce suggestions of potential candidates and ideas about qualities sought in the president.

UA Board to host public forums on presidential search

LITTLE ROCK - The Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas encourages students, faculty, staff and the general public to attend a series of public forums about the search for a new president of the University of Arkansas System.

Forums will be held on UA System campuses in Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Stuttgart, Fayetteville and Fort Smith on April 26-28. UA Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Carl Johnson will host the forums to give the university community a chance to suggest candidates and provide input on the qualities they’d like to have in the new president. Other UA Trustees will also attend the public forums.

“We want to hear from the constituents of the University of Arkansas System about what type of person they would like to have as our new president,” Johnson said. “This is a very important search for the future of our university and the state of Arkansas. I hope that people will turn out and give us their thoughts on this process.”

The board of trustees is seeking a replacement for current UA System President B. Alan Sugg, who plans to retire once the search is complete.
