The UALR community remains interested in news on Provost David Belcher, widely assumed to be leaving for a new higher education job not yet anounced.
How about chancellor of Western Carolina, which is to announce a new chancellor shortly? (This is based on nothing but Belcher's absence and the coincidence of this announcement. Many schools are searching for leaders this spring.) Western Carolina is in Cullohwee, about an hour west of Asheville, and enrolls about 9,500.
UPDATE: Good guess by moi. The Western Carolina student newspaper has just tweeted that Belcher is the new chancellor at the school. And here's the official release. He takes the job July 1.
After the announcement, UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson notified staff, saying in part:
Dr. Belcher has been an outstanding Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Although I regret his loss to UALR, for some time I have thought it inevitable that he would move into a chancellor’s or president’s position. I congratulate him on his new position, and I congratulate the University of North Carolina System and Western Carolina University on their new chancellor. David and Susan Belcher have made wonderful contributions to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and to the metropolitan community, and they will be greatly missed.
In the next few days, I will communicate further with the campus and ask for input regarding the appointment of an interim provost.
