Fewer than 600 votes separate an incumbent conservative Republican member of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and a previously unknown challenger to his re-election bid. The race is seen as something of a proxy for Wisconsin voters' feelings about the controversy set fire by Gov. Scott Walker's busting of public employee unions. A recount seems certain.
UPDATE: Challenger Kloppenburg ahead by 224 with three precincts out. Whatever the outcome, the winner is left in a tough position in ruling on future court cases that arise from the government disputes.
