John Brummett is sore about legislative approval of a $700,000 appropriation (which may not be funded) for the private Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. Aren't these hard times? Didn't this same legislature, led by conservative-talking Republicans, bridle for a day at spending $6,000 on the Arkansas School for the Deaf? Should government really be setting up a revenue stream for a private organization?
He's on a tear on this one. And I'm not arguing a bit. But I'm not sure I'd like to see the results of an Arkansas plebiscite on a choice between spending $700,000 on the Sports Hall of Fame and, say, Medicaid.
