The state Education Department has notified the Dermott School District that it appears to be in fiscal distress. The state Board of Education will be asked April 11 to officially classify the district in that fashion. This, among other things, means the district will not be able to undertake financial obligations without state approval.
We've written previously about cutbacks in the district aimed at keeping the shrinking Delta district out of the fiscally distressed category. Much of the fight has been over football. The district's troubles go deeper than that.
