More on the Broadway Bridge. It would appear the Highway and Transportation Department is hard at work on planning a replacement for the Broadway Bridge questions about cost and repair v. replacement notwithstanding. A department source says four design teams are working on coming up with "unique" designs for the bridge.

One team reportedly is working with T.Y. Lin International of San Francisco. This is called to my attention because the firm designed the bridge shown above, in Shenyang, China. According to my source, it's about 700 feet longer than the Broadway Bridge replacement, but was completed three years ago for $36 million (with six traffic lines and two pedestrian/bike paths). That's less than the $45 million set aside for the Broadway replacement. "In other words, this can be built for the money they are talking," my source says. I'd be inclined to guess that costs are lower in China, but throw this into your opinions on the project.
