Rankings released on state tax burden

The Tax Foundation (which, just so you'll know, is not a progressive organization) has released its annual state-by-state ranking on various tax measures.

By its measure, Arkansas isn't the worst, though, like many poor states, it ranks fairly high in various tax categories. There's much explaining needed for many of the numbers (for example, our relatively high rank on corporate taxes is diminished a great deal, if not in rates, by accounting loopholes established in state law that mean many hugely successful corporations pay little, if any. At the same time, our property tax rates are relatively low, particularly against, say, Texas, which makes up for the lack of income tax with a big property tax bite.)
