Georgia to slash lottery scholarships

Maybe we'll do better than Georgia. Maybe Arkansas lottery players will pour ever-increasing amounts into lottery tickets.

Or maybe Arkansas will in some future year replicate the Georgia experience, where drastic cuts have been proposed because rising costs have exceeded the state's promise of full tuition payments. Scholarships will be decoupled from tuition, except for the very smartest students. Maximum grants will be limited — to $3,600 per year for private college students, for example. Don't tell Ernie P., but Georgia is also cutting bonuses for lottery employees.
