LRPD takes a bite out of crime

A pizza shop owner quitting a location on account of repeat robberies wasn't exactly an advertisement for Little Rock progress in fighting crime.

I suspect that's part of the reason, as well as a batch of arrests, that the Little Rock police department has rounded up information on some recent robbery arrests (including the Otter Creek pizza holdup) and noted that they believe officers have arrested members of three groups, mostly juveniles, responsible for some 50 robberies.

The Little Rock Police Department has made some major arrests involving robberies in Little Rock in the last few weeks. During 2010 many businesses and individuals were robbed by several groups of very young suspects. Detectives believed there were three groups committing robberies in almost every area of Little Rock. Robbery detectives began developing suspects and following leads. Today we have identified these individuals and now have them under arrest. They have been arrested and charged, but they have not been charged in Circuit Court as adults at this point which prevents the release of their names at this time.

Group 1
There are three juveniles and one adult involved in robberies in this group.

The adult, Courtney Rhodes B/M 9/16/1973, was arrested on January 29, 2011, and charged with an Aggravated Robbery of an individual.

The ages of the three juveniles charged in this group are 15, 16, and 17.

This group is responsible for the robberies at Razorback Pizza on 1/8/2011, Shipley Donuts on 12/31/2011, and the Family Dollar on 12/21/2010. They are also believed to be involved in many other robberies and more charged will be forth coming.

Group 2
This group has three juveniles who have been charged with Aggravated Robbery.

Their ages are 15, 15, and 16. This group is believed to be responsible for robberies of individuals and burglaries.
Through this investigation information was developed which resulted in the arrest of a juvenile for Capitol Murder. This arrested is related to the homicide that occurred on 11/20/2010 at 6310 Colonel Glenn. Once again I cannot release the names of these juveniles until they are charged as adults in Circuit Court.

Group 3
This group has a 17 year old identified as one of the suspects. Detectives are working on the identity of other suspects involved with this group at this time.

This group is responsible for the Aggravated Robbery of the Family Dollar Store at 5300 Baseline.

Detectives believe that these three groups are responsible for 50 robberies in Little Rock during 2010 and early 2011.

Detectives are concentrating their efforts on accomplices and are anticipating additional charges.

It is very unusual to have this many juveniles involved in serious criminal activity. The Little Rock Police Robbery Squad has committed many long hours to these cases and have done an outstanding job in bringing these individuals to justice. They are to be commended for their hard work.
