About that health care bill

I was busy doing other things yesterday, so forgive the late post of this column from John Brummett, who tries to put David Meeks's recently failed anti-health reform bill into some context. It's one thing to challenge a federal law in court. It's quite another to up and pass a bill in direct contradiction to federal law could get the state into trouble.

Actually, the federal government could sue the state directly, as it did, I was reminded, over the performance of our human development centers.

Meeks, a legislative newcomer, was highly offended by the failure of his bill, labeling the committee action a partisan one undertaken in allegiance to that big, bad president, Barack Obama.

Oh, please. This was but simple common sense.
