Buzz in the Capitol yesterday included talk of Sen. Steve Harrelson's late arrival for swearing-in from Texarkana — by State Police helicopter. Some Republicans were rankled at what they took to be showboating. I don't have all the details, but a State Police spokesman said Harrelson, behind schedule, reported being becalmed in the massive mess on ice-covered Interstate 30. He was picked up near Malvern by an ASP helicopter flying along the route for observation, the spokesman said. Police vehicles have frequently been used over the years to help state officials to the Capitol when bad weather disrupts things. The State Police used $3.5 million in stimulus money last year to purchase a replacement for its well-used former National Guard chopper.
Harrelson's blog so far hasn't been updated with news or photos of his flight.
