The Little Rock School Board met last night in response to a petition from district residents who don't want Linda Watson replaced as superintendent. The Board is firm in that decision. But the lack of action following an executive session set off a round of rumors this morning about problems in the search for an interim superintendent to serve for the five months remaining on Watson's contract, which the board has bought out.
Board president Melanie Fox says the Board continues to winnow a list of candidates for the job. She said she expects to call a special meeting after the Board agenda meeting next Thursday for the purpose of selecting an interim. The Board has decided the interim will be 1) someone not currently employed in the district and 2) not a candidate for the permanent job. She said the Board wants a "status quo/healer" interim leader, not someone who'd come in and institute sudden broad changes.
