The Little Rock Police Department issued a brief statement today on Jason Gilbert, a patrol officer indicted on a federal charge of conspiring with others, including a VA and UAMS officer, to rob an armored car service.

The statement notes that Gilbert, who'd primarily been a patrol officer, had been placed on leave in September on account of criminal and administrative investigations unrelated to the armored car probe. The statement notes that he was charged with theft and forgery and possession of marijuana in state court in October and also had been charged by the State Police with DWI. The state charges related to forgery of a car title.

Chief Stuart Thomas said it was "disheartening and disappointing" when a police officer was charged with a crime, but he complimented the work of agencies that participated in the federal investigation.
