The far right has always been a little distrustful of Steve Womack, the new Republican congressman from the 3rd District. Too friendly with Gov. Mike Beebe, for one thing. Then he went and lobbied successfully for a seat on the Appropriations Committee — pork central.

So maybe this latest from Womack is to demonstrate he can be a nutjob, too. As Think Progress reports it, he’s become the seventh current or future member of Congress to indicate he’d be willing to shut down the federal government — cutting off money from Afghanistan to a nursing home in Bug Tussle, Ark. — if his demands on finances aren’t met. A club that includes Louie Gohmert of Texas you don’t want to be in.
