Friends rally for bomb suspect

Mark Krause
When we linked to an article the other day about Mark Krause, the Arkansas blacksmith arrested for allegedly placing an improvised soda can-bomb at a polling place in the June runoff primary, friends rallied to his defense in the comment thread and mentioned a Facebook page set up to support him.

Today, Talking Points Memo follows up, with interviews from a number of friends who defend Krause as an artist, liberal and innocent guy with, well, interesting hobbies.

"Mark's a complete liberal. He's not a Tea Party-type at all," long time friend Eugene Sergeant told TPM. "I think he almost always voted Democrat. He thought Republicans were just rich fucking assholes. But socially he was a liberal and he was definitely an odd mix - a freedom loving artist liberal who had a taste for tinkering with machines. And of course he likes to blow things up."

I suspect this story will have a number of interesting turns before it's over. I think it's worth observing that someone who enjoys the apparently old practice of blowing up anvils and other heavy objects to see how high they fly might have some explosive materials at his home. But .... it doesn't necessarily follow that this is proof of responsibility for another explosive device found in the vicinity. The evidence supposedly tying Krause to that device will be critical.
