I note that Adam Richman, star of the Travel Channel's Man v. Food will speak at the Clinton School at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 about his new book, "America the Edible."
He's done some eating in these parts before. And I guess wherever he shows up, somebody will dish up a platter of some local super-hot or super-enormous specialty.
But it made me wonder: Is there a local eatery with one of those stuff-yourself challenges, such as the 72-ounce steak at the Big Texan in Amarillo. Eat it and it's free. (And why feeling miserable is such a prize, I don't know.)
A good test might be the Sims Bar-B-Q family-style rib dinner. Rack of ribs, bowl of slaw, bowl of beans, stack of white bread, plenty of both the regular and hot sauce. And one Olde English 40. (Above is a Sims' chopped pork plate. A modest serving.)
