Conviction first, then trial

So a Guantanamo detainee has been convicted of a conspiracy count by a U.S. jury in a trial without terror incidents on U.S. soil and he seems likely to spend the rest of his life in prison.

All the terrible Republican predictions didn't come true, in other words, from following the Constitution.

In this, Republicans still see political opportunity because the jury acquitted the defendant on many counts, likely on account of evidence suppressed because he was tortured.

See, if the U.S. arrests somebody and tortures them, they must be guilty. Trials aren't necessary. Acquittals impossible. Just the quick formality of a military proceeding to pronounce guilty verdicts.

Does this sound like America to you?
