Arkansas environmentalists are pleading with U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln (D-duck) to back reform legislation to strictly regulate offshore drilling. North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays and County Judge Buddy Villines will deliver a letter on behalf of nearly two dozen current and former officials (including China-junketing Mayor Mark Stodola).
The hope is for action in the lame duck session, before the world ends for concerns about the environment, global warming, poor people, etc. It would be a final chance for Sen. Lincoln to do some good while no longer burdened with worries about voter repercussions. Unless, of course, she’s concerned about how her record might look to future employers in the government consulting/lobbying trade.
UPDATE: The actual letter delivery will be next week and Mayor Stodola may pitch in. Here’s the letter.
