The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported today on a state Ethics Commission fine and warning issued Circuit Judge Mike Maggio for paying his wife out of campaign funds and misreporting how the money was spent. The D-G got a rare quote from Maggio on his questionable dealings, though it was neither detailed nor persuasive.
It wasn't the first rodeo for Maggio with messy finances or questionable ethics. You may recall that he flashed a badge of dubious pedigree to get out of a speeding ticket. That his home mortgage was reported in default. That he's had state and federal tax liens filed against him. At some point, you have to wonder if judicial ethics regulators might see something worth remarking.
