It's not over until it's over

What if the pundits are wrong? What if they've been sold a line by the Republican Party and, by repeating it, they are just serving to advance it?

I don't want to get all irrationally exuberant about it, but it's nice to read that Democratic turnout in early voting is better than expected, not evidence of the tirelessly predicted "enthusiasm gap."

This much is for sure. There will be real consequences to this election. The about-face from Vic Snyder to Tim Griffin in the 2nd District is shocking to contemplate from a policy perspective, wholly apart from Griffin's character issues. But it is by no means the only race with such stark dimensions. Here in Arkansas, the prospect of John Boozman's election should be enough to galvanize every Democratic voter. He has no redeeming political feature. He is, as John Brummett wrote this morning, "a head of cattle that stays herded" by the national Republican Party.

The Republican tsunami may indeed be upon us. I suspect it is — a perfect storm akin to that enjoyed by Democrats only two years ago. But I'll be darned if it drowns me before I cast a ballot. If enthusiasm for your own candidates doesn't move you, fear of their opponents should. Vote.
