The Tea Party and racists

Lots of attention on the web this week to an NAACP study of the Tea Party movement. It's a careful work, with no broad-brush accusations against all the millions of Tea Partyers. But, yes, some links to odious groups — racist, nationalist, homophobic and such — were discovered.

A white supremacist write-in political candidate in Arkansas is among the problematic people turned up, Huffington Report notes.

And, I guess that some of the language in the NAACP report might stir the angry old coots when you think about it. From the NY Times:

“The Tea Party movement has unleashed a still inchoate political movement who are in their numerical majority, angry middle-class white people who believe their country, their nation, has been taken from them,” argues the report, called Tea Party Nationalism.

If the TPers are not racist, you do wonder why some of them are so upset about the possibility that black people in Texas might vote.
