Great story in Democrat-Gazette today by Charlie Frago. In reviewing Pulaski County property tax exemptions, he found Assessor Janet Troutman Ward had created a property tax exemption found nowhere in law or constitution for houses personally owned by several preachers, including Bishop Steven Arnold's house in Chenal Valley. He's just been in the news over his abrupt resignation from St. Mark Baptist. She deemed the private homes parsonages, though they are not.
Somebody should sue. Soon.
Frago kindly didn't recall the witchcraft allegations once leveled at Ward, whose personnel practices have spurred more than one complaint to local newspapers. A lawsuit claimed she concocted hexes on employees to keep them in line. Now this, on top of her solicitous recent treatment of property tax deadbeat Jim Keet.
Unopposed for re-election. Maybe not next time.
