The headline overstates a bit, perhaps, but I think that's a reasonable facsimile of the theme Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden of Conway is attempting to establish in a news release about his Republican opponent, Cody Hiland.
VADEN NEWS RELEASE
I have remained silent on my opponent’s recent hot checks issues, so as to not interfere with the criminal investigation by the special prosecutor. Now that the matter has been resolved by my opponent paying the hot checks on his account, it is necessary that I address his pattern of irresponsibility.
The job of the Prosecuting Attorney requires that one have a strong understanding of criminal law and exceptional organizational skills. The job does not confine its time frame to normal business hours. Representing the public’s trust and safety is a never-ending duty.
Those who seek to occupy the office of the Prosecuting Attorney must be experienced and capable of handling the difficult issues that constantly arise when dealing with the health and safety of the public.
Those that display a lack personal responsibility over themselves cannot be given the responsibility to act in the best interests of all of us.
My opponent’s pattern and display of lack of personal responsibility, even while running for public office, is quite troubling. His website states that the cornerstone of his campaign is the collection and prosecution of hot check writers while at the very same time, hot checks are being written to our local merchants from his own personal account and ultimately turned over to my office for criminal prosecution. Furthermore, he failed to pay taxes and the State had to file a tax lien to force him to pay. The tax lien was filed in March 2010, the same month he filed to run as a candidate for Prosecuting Attorney.
The job of Prosecuting Attorney is not about just getting elected to an office. It’s about putting public's safety and welfare first.
I have dedicated the last 19 years of my life to being a prosecutor in this office. I am the only candidate in this race with the experience and qualifications to do the job. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of this great district.
