The sound of music on Main Street

A formal announcement is set tomorrow on a plan to turn a vacant building at 315 Main into a jazz club and apartments. Notice follows. We are, of course, hopeful that it ends better than a few other Main Street dreams of recent years — the art movie theater, the Donaghey redo, the M.M. Cohn redo, the Boyle Building redo and others. One thing's sure, there's now a lot of cleared space for parking lots.

A new development in the effort to revitalize Main Street will be announced tomorrow, Tuesday, September 14th at 11:00 a.m. Mayor Mark Stodola will be joined by Bob East with the Downtown Partnership to unveil plans to turn an empty building at 315 Main Street into a combination of apartments and a jazz club. This is an important step in the fulfillment of plans that began when Little Rock was chosen by the Mayors’ Institute on City Design (MICD) to be one of its beneficiaries. MICD is a National Endowment for the Arts leadership initiative in partnership with the American Architectural Foundation and the United States Conference of Mayors. Since 1986, MICD has helped transform communities through design by preparing cities to redevelop their urban core.
