The line is open.
Slow news day: The biggest story in NWA today is arrest of Fort Smith junior high principal for offering money to a woman for sex. Unfortunately for him, she was an undercover cop.
For the obsessive-compulsive: I did make an FOI request for University of Arkansas documents related to Helmetgate, the Hog-logo-sporting John Boozman commercials that stirred a dustup this week. The product is here. Mostly unrevealing and quite a bit of duplication, so be warned before you look. The UA did send a memo in late August to political campaigns, including Boozman's, about the need for permission for use of Hog trademarks and it also advised about rules on using the campus for political activities. The Lincoln campaign, which along with reporters raised questions about the Boozman ads when they began airing on Tuesday, noted that it had received permission to create some "Hog fans for Lincoln" materials. UPDATE: The UA said it could find no request was made or granted for use of Hog trademarks, desipte what Lincoln's campaign manager wrote.)
No involvement by the Athletic Department is reflected in the materials produced. Pieces are still missing in this minor puzzle, it seems to me. Or maybe, except for that one ambiguous phone call between the Boozman campaign and a facilities man mentioned in newspaper reporting this week, the Boozman people just figured they could do whatever they wanted related to the candidate's football days at UA. Joe Ferguson might not remember Booz's days on the line as fondly as Booz does.
