I've written before about Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Keet's Florida roots. He spent the better part of the last decade in the restaurant business in Florida and voted there. He told me he moved back to Arkansas in early 2009. The issue has re-emerged as the Beebe campaign has begun making more use of it to buttress its claim that Keet is out of touch when he talks about Arkansas issues.
I don't know if this tactic has any usefulness for Beebe or not. There's a lingering and unresolved legal question about whether the state's requirement of seven years of residency for a candidate for governor covers the seven years before candidacy or whether it can be cumulative, a measure Keet easily would meet. I do think it's probably better for Beebe just to be suggestive about residency questions rather than support a legal test.
