UAMS says it will announce tomorrow "Arkansas' Largest-ever Grant." This just may mean it's UAMS' largest. Rumors are that it's in the range of $100 million, which would be a whopper, but less than the $300 million the Waltons gave to the University of Arkansas.
Hints from the announcement are that it will underwrite a statewide program related to obstetrics and gynecology (the UAMS oby/gyn chair led the grant application) and children. Given these technological times, I'd guess that some of the money is for computer and communications improvements that can deliver services in ways other than new brick-and-mortar facilities.
PS — I am advised that there's a difference between a grant — which can arise from competition — and a donation. A spokesman for Sen. Mark Pryor's office has inadvertently let slip that tomorrow's announcement includes news of a $102 million grant to expand broadband communication in the state. I still think the announcement will be broader than that.
