Circuit Judge Jay Moody has agreed with Republicans who argued that it was not legal to call a special Democratic primary in Stone County to nominate a candidate for sheriff. Statutes don't allow the special election, he says. Not even if the reason for the need for one was a flat-footed tie in the regular primary. His ruling will be appealed. If upheld, the Republican walks in unopposed, no matter the damage to other legitimate candidates.
