George W. Bush was a disaster. Elaboration not needed. But I agree with Frank Rich. Running against Bush in 2010 is a losing strategy for Democrats. They have to run about the now and the future.
There's ample ammunition. The leading Republican light in the House, Paul Ryan, wants to end Social Security and Medicare as we know them. Senators would upend the 14th Amendment. Tax cuts for the rich are solidly in fashion with the GOP. Says Rich:
The Democrats have already retreated from immigration and energy reform. If they can’t make the case to Americans like Alexandra Jarrin that they offer more hope for a job than a radical conservative movement poised to tear down what remains of the safety net, they deserve to lose.
