A memorial service for Medal of Honor recipient Nick Bacon, who died Saturday, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock.
A public memorial service will be held Saturday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m. for Nicky Daniel Bacon, U.S. Army First Sergeant Retired, and Arkansas' last living Medal of Honor recipient. The service will be at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Avenue, in North Little Rock. A reception will follow at the Professional Education Center Militia Hall at Camp Joseph T. Robinson.
Public parking for the service will be at Pulaski Technical College Aerospace Technology Center across from the cemetery. Buses and vans will begin transporting individuals to the state cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Public seating will be available, but is not guaranteed. Water will be provided.
Individuals wishing to attend the reception at Camp Robinson should enter through the Maryland Avenue gate. Directions to Militia Hall will be provided upon arrival.
Media parking will be available within the cemetery. Media will be escorted by the Arkansas National Guard at a respectable distance from the family during the memorial service. Media interested in coverage of this event must contact the Arkansas National Guard State Public Affairs Office at 501-212-5020 in order to coordinate access onto the cemetery grounds.
No interviews will be granted at the cemetery by request of the family.
Bacon’s son, Army Staff Sergeant James Bacon, will conduct interviews on behalf of the family at the reception. Additional interview possibilities may include other Medal of Honor recipients attending the reception.
