Local TV is all over a chase on I-30 eastbound that ended with the crash of what some are describing as a suspected stolen vehicle in southwest Little Rock, west of the I-430 interchange. Traffic was a mess as a result. Channel 11 is reporting a fatality.

Update: Press release from Bill Sadler, Arkansas State Police, on jump.

Arkansas State Police are continuing to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred this morning at 8:03 AM at the 128.5 mile marker along Interstate 30.

At 7:53 AM Arkansas State Police Corporal Jeff Ramsey reported he was attempting to initiate a traffic stop of a speeding pick-up truck eastbound along I-30 near the 110 mile marker. Corporal Ramsey reported the driver of the vehicle refused to comply with the stop and a pursuit was underway.

On more than one occasion during the course of the pursuit the driver maneuvered the truck off the interstate onto a parallel service road and continued at a high rate of speed veering off the service road and back onto the interstate in an attempt to pass slower traffic.

As the driver of the truck approached a bridge which crosses a creek at the 128.5 mile marker, he lost control of the vehicle, causing the truck to flip over and land on its top in water below the bridge.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been transported to the State Crime Laboratory to be examined and cause of death determined.

The continuing investigation has determined that the truck driven by the victim had been recently stolen from a Little Rock location.

Identification of the driver is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
