Wheels deal has legs

The issue on the use of state cars is still moving, fueled by politics and legitimate questions. Not suprisingly, Republican gubernatorial Jim Keet is now entering the vehicular fray, posing this question today: Did Gov. Beebe supplement his salary by using a state car for his personal use when he was attorney general?

“Providing a car to then Attorney General Beebe for legitimate state business is within the bounds of the amendment. However, when a car was used for something other than state business it became a ‘perk’ of the office making it personal income in violation of Amendment 70. Governor Beebe owes the people of Arkansas an explanation about how, as the chief law enforcement officer of the state, he could have received the perk as personal income, and yet not have been in violation of Amendment 70,” said Keet.
